Fasting during Ramadan is an obligation on all able Muslims and is one of the five pillars of Islam. Therefore, Muslims must pay a compensation when missing this fundamental aspect of Islam. Charity, as well as compulsory payments like these, emphasise just what an important aspect of Islam the holy month of Ramadan is.

Kaffarah 2026 – Making Amends for Broken Fasts and Oaths
What is Kaffarah?
Kaffarah is a form of charitable atonement in Islam required when a Muslim intentionally breaks a fast during Ramadan without a valid reason, or when a person breaks a solemn oath. It is a way to seek forgiveness from Allah (SWT) and restore spiritual balance.
Allah (SWT) says in the Quran:
"And those who break their oaths after swearing them and commit what is unlawful, they shall compensate by feeding ten needy persons, or clothing them, or freeing a slave. Those who cannot afford it must fast three days."
(Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:89)
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) also said:
“Whoever intentionally breaks a fast during Ramadan must fast sixty continuous days, or feed sixty poor persons if unable to fast.”
(Sunan Abu Dawood, Book 13, Hadith 2399)

Duas When Paying Kaffarah
While making Kaffarah, you can recite the following dua to seek forgiveness and purification:
"Astaghfirullaha Rabbi min kulli dhanbin wa atubu ilayh."
(O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness for all my sins and turn to You in repentance.)
You can also make a personal dua, asking Allah to accept your Kaffarah and grant you mercy:
“Allahumma taqabbal minni wa aghfir li dhunubi wa tahhir qalbi wa ja’alni min al-muqarrabeen.”
(O Allah, accept from me, forgive my sins, purify my heart, and make me among the close ones to You.)
