Best Deeds to Do in the First Ten Days of the Dhul Hijjah 2025

Just as it is narrated about the month of Ramadan that this month is the chief of all months, similarly, according to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah are the chief of all days.

The worship performed in these ten days is equivalent to the worship of a year, and each fast is equivalent to the fasting of a year. A Muslim who fasts in the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, for each fast, Allah Almighty will reward him with a reward equal to a year of fasting. Similarly, the reward of worship performed during the nights of the first ten days is also immeasurable. The reward of worship for each night is equal to a year of worship.

These are the same ten days in which Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) confessed his sin and sought forgiveness from Allah. During those ten days, Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) expressed his trust by offering his dearest son for sacrifice in the path of Allah. During these ten days, Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) and Prophet Ismail (peace be upon him) began the construction of the Kaaba. According to a tradition, the revelation of the Holy Quran began for the first time during these ten days. Prophet Abraham(as) was born on this day and in accordance with reports cited by Shaikh Mufid and Shaikh Tusi, Imam Ali (peace be upon him) married Sayyeda Fatima Zahra (peace be upon her) on this day.

The Virtues of these Ten Days according to Quran and Sunnah

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself would be extremely attracted to worship during these ten days. The virtue of the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah can be gauged from the fact that a man was brought to him who had many shortcomings, but he used to fast during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked him the reason for this, the man said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have many shortcomings and I cannot do any good deed, but since these are the ten days of Hajj, I fast and worship during them, thinking of this, so that Allah Almighty may include me in the prayers and rewards of these pilgrims.

"He (peace be upon him) said: If this is your intention, then remember that Allah will give you the reward of one fast equal to a year of fasting, and the reward of one night of worship is equal to the reward of a year of worship.

He (PBUH) used to stay awake especially during the first ten nights of the month of Dhul-Hijjah, and even kept his servants awake during those nights in prayer.

It is important to remember here that when we mention the acts of worship during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, we mean the first nine days and ten nights. The eight days are equal to a year of worship, but the day of Arafah is of special importance. The reward of fasting on the day of Arafah is equal to two years of fasting, and the reward of worshipping on the night of Arafah is equal to two years of wake. If those whom Allah grants success prostrate themselves before Allah on the night of Arafah and continue to praise and glorify Him, then there is every hope that the Almighty Allah will send down His blessings and they will become closer to Allah.

He (PBUH) always sacrificed three animals. These animals were usually sheep or goats. He (PBUH) would sacrifice one on behalf of his parents and all Muslims who had passed away. He would sacrifice one on behalf of himself and those of his Ummah who were unable to sacrifice due to lack of resources.

Therefore, those of us who are able should follow in the footsteps of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and make three sacrifices. One on behalf of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), his family, and all those Muslims who cannot afford to make a sacrifice. In this way, the reward of the sacrifice will increase many times over. The second is to follow the Sunnah, and the third is to take care of those Muslim brothers who cannot make a sacrifice due to lack of financial means.

10 Things to do in Best Ten Days of the Year

About these highly honorable days, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is reported to have said that nothing is more preferable to Almighty Allah than practicing acts of worship on these ten stated days. This is an indication of the following holy verse, “…That they may witness advantages for them and mention the name of Allah during stated days over what He has given them of the cattle quadrupeds, then eat of them and feed the distressed one, the needy. 22/28”

1.Takbeer & Zikr Allah

There are no days in which good deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days, so recite Tahlil, Takbir, and Tahmeed frequently during them. Hadith- Ahmad

While there are different forms of it, the takbirs can also be recited like this:

اللہ اکبر، اللہ اکبر، لا الہ الا اللہ، اللہ اکبر، و للہ الحمد۔
ترجمہ: اللہ سب سے بڑا ہے، اللہ بہت بڑا ہے، اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں۔ اللہ سب سے بڑا ہے اور اللہ ہی کے لیے حمد ہے

When to say Takbeer in Zul Hijjah

Recite the Takbeer-e-Tashreeq from the 9th-13th Dhul Hijjah.  Begins after Fajr on the 9th Dhul Hijjah (Day of Arafah) and continues after every Fardh prayer until asr on the 13th Dhul Hijjah.

During these ten days, Ibn Umar and Abu Hurairah would go out to the market and both would recite the Takbir. When people saw them, they would start reciting the Takbir.

In these blessed ten days of zil hajj, we should also be consistent with the daily dhikr prescribed by our beloved Messenger of Allah ﷺ, such as the morning and evening adhkār, the adhkār before sleeping and the adhkār after ṣalāh.

2.No hair and Nails Cut!

“When the 10 days (of Dhu’l-Hijjah) begin – and any one of you wants to offer a sacrifice, let him refrain (from cutting) his hair and nails.” (Muslim)

The prohibition starts from the 1st of Dhul Hijjah and lasts until one has made the qurbani and can resume cutting hair and nails thereafter.

3.Fasting

Fasting in Zul Hijjah, 10 best days of the year

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to fast the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah and the day of Ashura, and three days in every month, the first Monday of the month and the two Thursdays.

[Hadith | Abu Dawud, 2/462]

It is recommended to observe fasting on the first nine days of Dhu’l-Hijjah.

Fasting on Day of Arafah

The reward of fasting on the day of Arafah is equal to two years of fasting.

It is an expiation for the sins of the previous year and the current year.

[Hadith | Muslim]

Fasting on the Day of ‘Arafah is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended for those who are not performing Hajj.

4.Salaat

Did you know that praying at night in the first ten nights of Dhul-Hijjah is equal to praying on Laylat al-Qadr? -

It is recommended to offer a two unit prayer between the Maghrib and `Isha' obligatory prayers and to recite at each unit Surah al-Fatiah once, Surah al-Tawheed once, and the following verse (7/142):The reward of offering this prayer is to participate in the rewards of those who go on hajj.

And We appointed with Moses a time of thirty nights , and completed them with ten more, so the appointed time of his Lord was complete forty nights, and Moses said to his brother Aaron: Take my place among my people, and act well and do not follow the way of the mischief-makers.

5.Prayers for ten days of zil hajj

Pray On sighting of the Crescent Moon

O Allah Azzawajal make this moon come out on us with blessings and with Iman and peace and Islam and make it come out with the ability of that thing which pleases you and that you like, (O moom of the first night my and your Lord is Allah Azzawajal).

Dua for Protection

The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are beloved to Allah, and a time of acceptance of Dua. It’s important to remember our Akhirah when making Dua, and to ask for protection.

O Allah, I ask of Your pleasure and for Paradise, and I seek refuge from Your displeasure and from the Hellfire.

Dua for Ummah

Dhul Hijjah is the time in which Hajj takes place – where muslims from across the globe unite at Makkah with the same goal of pleasing Allah and fulfilling His rights. During these holy days, it’s important to remember our Muslim brothers and sisters across that world, and to ask Allah (SWT) to grant them ease, patience and fulfil their needs.

O Allah! Improve (help) the state of the Ummah of Muhammad. O Allah! Grant ease to the Ummah of Muhammad. O Allah! Have mercy on the Ummah of Muhammad.

Dua for Acceptance of Deeds

After increasing our worship and offering Qurbani in Dhul Hijjah, it’s important to make Dua for the acceptance of our good deeds.

Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us. Verily! You are the All-Hearer, the All-Knower.”

Pray for Success

Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

Dua for Youm Arafah

There is no day on which Allah frees people from the Fire more so than on the day of ‘Arafah. He comes close to those (people standing on ‘Arafah), and then He reveals before His Angels saying, ‘What are these people seeking.

[Hadith | Muslim]

There is no God but Allah alone Who has no partner, to whom dominion belongs, to whom praise is due, and who has power over everything.”

The best time to make Dua is during the last hour before Maghrib prayer.

Recite the Takbeer-e-Tashreeq from the 9th-13th Dhul Hijjah

It is greatly suggested for every Muslim adult to recite the Takbeer-e-Tashreeq after prayer from the 9th-13th Dhul Hijjah. Men should recite this out loud, while women should recite this silently:

اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ لَا إلَهَ إلَّا اللَّهُ وَاَللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ وَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْد

Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. There is no deity besides Allah and Allah is the greatest. Allah is the greatest and all praises are for Allah only.

Dua is the essence of worship [Hadith | Tirimdhi] .

Pray to Allah frequently!

6.Recite Quran in Best Ten Days

Reciting the Quran is one of the best acts of worship that we can perform to draw closer to Allah and seek His pleasure. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, there is a reward for him. And this reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that "Alif, Lam, Meem" is a letter, rather I am saying that "Alif" is a letter, "Lam" is a letter, and "Meem" is a letter.'' Tirmidhi

7.Work for Welfare

Both the Quran and the hadith have put much emphasis on spending money for the welfare of needy people. The Quran says:

Spend something (in charity) out of the substance which We have bestowed on you, before Death should come to any of you' (63:10).

The rights that others owe us also fall under the category of obligations. It is also obligatory upon us to take care of our close relatives. For this, we will be accountable to Allah. Similarly, taking care of our neighbors, these are just a few examples of our obligations. We will have to be accountable to Allah for fulfilling our obligations.

Obligations come first, then we have to perform the things that are obligatory upon us. Optional acts of worship come last. Remember that we cannot sacrifice an obligation for an optional act.

Maximize your rewards in best ten days of the zil hajj 2025 by contributing to welfare programs, Help fund clean water, healthcare, education, and sustainable livelihoods.

8.Seek Forgiveness

Repentance brings us closer to Allah and purifies our souls. Allah says:

“Ask forgiveness of your Lord and repent to Him, [and] He will provide you with good provision for a specified term and will give to every doer of good his due.” (Al-Quran,)

Hajj is the last act of worship that we as Muslims can perform to seek forgiveness from Allah and make amends for our sins, but most of us are lucky if we can go even once in our lifetime. That is why Dhul Hijjah is a great gift from Allah, allowing us to repent and seek forgiveness for our sins, even if we are not on Hajj.

9.Charity (sadaqah)

Many of us maximize our charity during the last ten nights of Ramadan, but the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah are just as valuable and offer the best opportunity to earn extra reward for simple good deeds! Hasan Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Going to meet the needs of your brother is better for you than performing Hajj after Hajj.
