Shaping the Future : International Literacy Day

Alkhidmat's Dedication to Literacy and Education

What is World Literacy Day?

The tradition of commemorating World Literacy Day began in 1965 when UNESCO officially designated September 8th as International Literacy Day. This significant occasion is celebrated annually to highlight the critical issues surrounding literacy and advocate for its empowering role in individuals and fostering development. It's a moment to recognize the profound impact of literacy on achieving sustainable development goals and to inspire global efforts to enhance literacy rates worldwide

Significance of World Literacy Day

World Literacy Day is devoted to spreading awareness about the importance of literacy globally. It's a day to celebrate the transformative power of reading and writing in changing lives and communities. On this occasion, individuals from various backgrounds unite to promote literacy and advocate for equal educational opportunities. This day acknowledges the profound influence that literacy has on individuals, societies, and the global community.

This day is celebrated to highlight the importance of literacy and address the global challenges it poses. By raising awareness about literacy issues, we can work towards improving educational access, supporting literacy initiatives, and empowering individuals to reach their full potential. Literacy goes beyond being just a basic skill; it's a fundamental right that can overcome challenges, reduce poverty, and foster inclusive societies.

Alkhidmat’s Educational Programs

Currently, Pakistan's literacy rate stands at 56 percent, indicating that nearly half of our population lacks basic literacy skills. An alarming 22 million children, mainly girls, are missing out on educational opportunities. Alkhidmat Foundation is rooted in the belief that every child deserves access to quality education, nourishment, and holistic development. Using our resources, we actively contribute to the futures of young scholars through our esteemed Alfalah Scholarship Program. This program addresses the needs of academically talented yet financially disadvantaged students at different educational stages. Moreover, our partnership with the Child Protection and Rehabilitation Trust (CPRT) includes establishing Child Protection Centers and Skills Development Centers. These initiatives reintegrate out-of-school children into the educational system by nurturing their interest in learning.

Alkhidmat Schools
