When Does Ramadan Start?

Ramadan, the holiest month in Islam, follows the lunar calendar, meaning its start date shifts approximately ten days earlier each year in the Gregorian calendar. It officially begins with the sighting of the crescent moon, marking the end of the month of Shaban, the eighth month of the Islamic (Hijri) calendar. This spiritual month is a time of fasting, prayer, and self-reflection for Muslims worldwide.

In 2025, Ramadan is expected to commence on the evening of Friday, 28th February or Saturday, 1st March, depending on the moon sighting. Since Islamic months are based on the lunar cycle, local and global moon-sighting committees will confirm the exact start date.

When Does Ramadan End?

The conclusion of Ramadan is marked by Eid al-Fitr, a joyous celebration signifying the completion of a month of fasting and devotion. Eid al-Fitr begins with the sighting of the new crescent moon, signifying the start of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar.

In 2025, Ramadan is anticipated to end on the evening of Sunday, 30th March, depending on the sighting of the moon. The blessed occasion of Eid al-Fitr is an opportunity for Muslims to express gratitude, offer special prayers, and extend charity to those in need, ensuring that everyone can partake in the festivities.

Alhamdulillah! The Blessed Month of Ramadan is Upon Us!

Once again, we are blessed with the arrival of Ramadan, a sacred time for Muslims around the world to engage in worship, self-reflection, and devotion to Allah (SWT). This month is an opportunity to seek His mercy, strengthen our faith, and experience the beauty of patience and gratitude.

As the Islamic calendar follows the lunar cycle, the start of Ramadan shifts by approximately ten days earlier each year. In 2025, Ramadan is expected to commence on the evening of Friday, 28th February, or Saturday, 1st March, depending on the sighting of the crescent moon. As we embark on this spiritual journey, may Allah (SWT) accept our fasts, prayers, and good deeds. Ameen!
